Green River Community College will host its annual Lunar New Year Party on Friday, January 27 from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Lindbloom Student Center. A major holiday for Asian cultures, the celebration marks the start of the Year of the Dragon. Celebrated throughout Asia with regional and cultural variations, common themes associated with Lunar New Year are good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity.
“No matter how different people celebrate Lunar New Year, as the most important of the traditional holidays in most eastern and southeastern Asian countries, it is the time that family members gather together for reunion,” International Student Activities Coordinator Samuel Huang said.
“It will be an eye-opening experience to participate in this event because of the diverse cultures portrayed through the performances held during the party,” Vid Wah, second year student and International Student Ambassador, said.
Organized by student groups, the Lunar New Year Festival is a way for people to get involved in college activities. Students and community members see elaborate student-led performances displaying traditions of Asian cultures.
GRCC students with ID are $7 on or before January 13 after $9. Non-GRCC students are $10. Contact the Student Life Office at 253-833-9111 ext. 2400 for more information or to purchase tickets.
